The Garden Conservancy's Open Days
Laura Palmer, Garden Conservancy vice president for Open Days and special projects, has led the Open Days award-winning program since its inception in 1995. Since that time, over a million visitors have explored thousands of private gardens in more than forty-one states across the country.
Laura travels much of the year to visit with garden hosts and volunteers, picking up design and gardening ideas along the way. Her photographs from these visits are filled with beautiful gardens and the people who create and visit them, and a lot of the plants and dogs she’s fallen in love with over the years!
Before joining the Garden Conservancy, Laura worked for several nonprofits around the country including the Brandywine Conservancy in Chadds Ford, PA; the Union of Concerned Scientists in Cambridge, MA; and the Event Company in Boulder, CO, whose clients included the Jane Goodall Institute. In her spare time, Laura is an enthusiastic gardener and a volunteer emergency medical technician in her hometown of Millbrook, NY, and serves on the board of her local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Speaker Laura Palmer will take participants on a virtual tour of some of the most outstanding American gardens, both public and private, that have been featured in the Garden Conservancy’s Open Days program or participated in the organization’s preservation work.
